The appraisal time is here! And we still hear a lot of stories on how there was no feedback given by the reporting managers. Are you doing anything specific in your organization which focuses just on the quality of feedback received & given?
By training the managers. Show them how to give qualitative feedback by giving them frameworks or designs
Despite training, managers don’t spend time in giving a good feedback.
As a practice, all managers must document their feedback for the employees in a standard prescribed format, which should have word limits and defined questions. HR or skip manager should review the feedback form before it is submitted. If the manager is writing all nice things, but giving a bad rating, then the HR or skip manager should flag it off
Another way is to ask employees to rate their managers on the feedback they gave. Was it useful or not. Feedback should be developmental and not critical. Employees should get insights into how they can improve as professionals.
