What are some of the ways by which you keep your foreign national employees engaged and motivated at workplace?
1. Make a presentation on “About India, or about the city” and share with him. Gives him insights into the culture and geography of the place
2. Help him with school admissions and house
3. Assign a buddy to him, preferably someone who lives close to his house
4. Invite him to informal house parties so that he understands the culture and bonds well
More than presentation, a video blog could be useful. What I have also seen is that expats are most concerned about food and are conscious of the food allergies. it would be good to share a list of most commonly found food items in India and the ingredients.
Sometimes we are not sensitive to the basics when we have expats working in our team. Ensure you don’t talk in your local language in-front of him. or if you do, then translate what you said. Get to understand their cultural background, as much as you try and explain them yours. Get him to find a place where his hobbies or interests are taken care of.
